Distorted Eating
Angela Grassi, a licensed dietician specializing in polycystic ovarian syndrome, will be featured here at PCOS Today Magazine, with a column about distorted eating. Distorted eating, which includes problems like emotional eating, anorexia nervosa, bulimia, and binge eating, can have a significant affect on PCOS treatment and management. Angela's practice is located in Haverford, Pennsylvania, but she also provides nutrition counseling via the phone. She will also answer reader questions following her first column. Check back soon for Angela's first column! In the meantime, check out her practice's Web site at
www.pcosnutrition.com.

Plans are being made now to take PCOS Today Magazine to a print version that will come out on a quarterly basis. How do you fit in to this plan? We need story ideas! What would you like to see in upcoming print and online issues of PCOS Today Magazine?
Here's how you can send your story ideas in to the editor:
Send an e-mail to
lmharvey@pcostodaymagazine.com. In the e-mail, give us details about your story idea. What is your idea? Do you have sources who we can talk to? How will your idea benefit women and girls with PCOS? Do you want to write the story? How long (how many words) will it be? Anything will be considered: profiles of women with PCOS; reviews of books about PCOS (if you've written one, let us know!); profiles of doctors who treat women and girls with PCOS; you name it. If you have other ideas for content (that is not story-based), let us know too!
A great IVF/PCOS/TTC Blog
About a week ago, I received an e-mail about a blog detailing the in-vitro fertilization process of a woman with PCOS trying to conceive. Candie details her experience with IVF, step-by-step in her blog. Check out

A great PCOS research news source
Check out OBGYN.net if you're looking for updated information about relevant PCOS research. Recent articles include focus on sleep deprivation and metabolic syndrome, PCOS from a parent's perspective (how to help a teenager deal with PCOS), and pelvin pain. (Updated Oct. 27, 2006)
Women's Health Research: Clinical Trials
PCOS Today is now featuring information about current clinical trials underway within the United States. Please click on the link above to find out more about recent trials at Northwestern University and the University of Virginia Health System, among others. (Updated Sept. 15, 2006)
The Society of Women's Health Research is quite the resource for all things health-related about women. Recently came across this article about the prevalence of women in medical research studies. Most interesting from this article is the concept that the gender of the researcher greatly affects the gender of the participants. This coupled with a growing decline in women participating in these medical research studies makes the process of finding better treatments for things like PCOS harder to find. Check out this article,
"The Involvement of Women in Medical Research Studies" by clicking on the title, and check back to this site later for a page about PCOS-related clinical trials. (Updated July 25, 2006)

EDITOR'S MESSAGE
The beginning of 2007 brought a great new opportunity for partnership within the PCOS community. Along with four other PCOS advocates with a ferocious urge to provide the most free flow of information about the syndrome, I am part of Project PCOS (www.projectpcos.org). Our aim, aside from recreating how the world views PCOS and gets its information about the syndrome, includes finding ways for those with PCOS to advocate for themselves. Check out the Project's Web site for more information.
This month (FINALLY), the story about the Northwestern University PCOS Study group will debut. I think you'll be quite surprised by what you learn about this team of professionals dedicated to the medical side of the syndrome. I truly enjoyed meeting with Dr. Andrea Dunaif, Helen Anderson, and the many other PCOS Study staff in late 2006, and I anticipate a long-standing relationship with them from here on.
Take care, Linda
